Upholstery & Reupholstery in Brisbane
Elko is a Brisbane upholsterer working out of our Carindale workshop, reupholstering everything from a single dining chair to a full lounge suite. Whether you need an upholstery repair, a full reupholstery job, or advice on fabric and leather, our team handles the fabric, foam and structural work in one place.

Fabric & Leather Options
Every reupholstery job starts with choosing what goes over the frame.
When you get a quote, we’ll talk you through your fabric and leather options and what suits how a piece will actually be used — a hard-wearing weave for a family dining chair, or a leather closer to what a wingback or lounge started with. If you’d like to keep costs down, we can sometimes reupholster using fabric, vinyl or leather you already have or source yourself — Nikki and the team will let you know if that’s a good fit for your piece before any cutting starts. For leather-specific repairs and re-colouring, see our leather repair page.
How Reupholstery Works
From the frame up — structural work, timber, fabric and fitting, all done by hand at our Carindale workshop.
We check the frame and mechanism
Before any fabric comes off, we check the frame, joints and (where fitted) the mechanism to see what structural work is needed alongside the reupholstery.
Frames and mechanisms are repaired
Loose joints, worn webbing, tired springs and office chair mechanisms are repaired or replaced so the piece is solid before it’s recovered.
Timber is cleaned and polished
Exposed timber — legs, arms and frames — is cleaned back and polished by hand to match the rest of the piece.
Fabric or leather is cut to pattern
Your chosen fabric or leather is measured and cut to pattern for the piece, ready to be fitted.
New upholstery is fitted by hand
Foam, webbing and the new cover are fitted by hand at our Carindale workshop, and the piece is put back together.
What Brisbane Thinks of Elko
Real feedback from real customers, unedited.
“Elko Chair Repairs fixed my mid century dining room chairs after a different business did a shoddy job on them and made them worse. I love these chairs, I inherited them from my grandma and have been their keeper for nearly 20 years now, since my grandma passed. Elko made the chairs strong and solid again, and added new foam and webbing to the seats. They managed to do all this while re-using the vinyl covering from the previous upholsterer (the shoddy one) to keep costs down for me. I think this many be the only chair repair business in Brisbane that really knows how to do both upholstery and structural work. I am very pleased with the results!”

“A huge thank you to Nikki and the team at Elko Chairs for the fabulous job that they did on reupholstering our bedhead insert. The work is top notch & their service was fantastic. The team at Elko’s went above & beyond to deliver. Would not hesitate to recommend them & would definitely use them again.”

“Absoultey smash it!!! Couldnt be happier, I had a heap of quotes to get my very large and heavy office chair fixed up, new straps, new foam, new base and arms. I was a little bit nervous because this chair cost me thousands when I bought it but Elko has far gone past anything I could have thought. They even fixed things I didn’t know were wrong and called me and kept me in the loop the whole way through the process, and picked up and dropped off. If i could give more then 5 stars I would!!”

Upholstery Brisbane FAQs
Straight answers to the questions we hear most from Brisbane customers.
The cost depends on the chair’s size, the fabric or leather you choose, and how much structural work — frame repairs, new webbing, new foam — is needed alongside the re-cover. Two chairs that look similar can cost quite different amounts once you factor in condition. Send us a couple of photos or call 1300 048 152 and we’ll put together a quote based on what your chair actually needs.
It depends on the piece. A solid, well-built frame — especially an inherited chair or a higher-quality piece — is often worth reupholstering rather than replacing with something lower quality, and it lets you keep a piece with sentimental value. A chair with a damaged or low-quality frame is a different calculation. We’ll give you an honest opinion as part of your quote.
Most upholstery work is quoted per job rather than by the hour, because the fabric, foam, webbing, leather and labour involved vary so much between pieces — a dining chair seat is a very different job to a full lounge suite. We quote based on what your furniture needs, not a flat hourly rate.
A couch or sofa costs more than a single chair simply because of the extra fabric, foam and labour involved, and the price moves with the couch’s size, shape and fabric or leather choice. The most accurate figure comes from a quote based on photos or a visit to our Carindale workshop — call 1300 048 152 or send us a couple of photos.
